Disability Pride Month, observed in July, is a time to celebrate and recognize the achievements, experiences, and rights of people with disabilities. It originated in the United States and coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The month aims to promote visibility and mainstream awareness of the positive pride felt by people with disabilities, challenging stigma and discrimination. It also fosters a sense of community among individuals with disabilities and their allies, celebrating diversity and advocating for equality and accessibility in all aspects of society. Activities during Disability Pride Month often include parades, educational events, social media campaigns, and community gatherings.
