Advocacy at Girls Chronically Rock

At Girls Chronically Rock, advocacy is at the core of everything we do. Our mission goes beyond creating adaptive fashion, we are here to break barriers, amplify voices, and create a more inclusive world for people with disabilities.

Our Advocacy Work

As a brand founded by Keisha Greaves, who lives with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, we are deeply committed to advancing disability rights, gender equality, and accessibility in all spaces. Through our advocacy efforts, we aim to:

• Raise Awareness: By sharing personal stories and experiences, we bring visibility to the challenges faced by the disability community. Our work shines a light on the importance of accessibility in fashion, healthcare, and public spaces.
• Champion Adaptive Fashion: Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression, and we believe everyone should have access to clothing that makes them feel confident and empowered. We are pushing for more inclusive designs that cater to people of all abilities and body types.
• Foster Gender Equality: As a business certified by The SHE Mark™ for meeting high standards of gender equality, we actively promote diversity and equity in leadership, ownership, and governance. Girls Chronically Rock is committed to creating opportunities for underrepresented communities and ensuring fair, inclusive practices in every part of our business.
• Advocate for Accessibility in Healthcare: Through public speaking and collaborations, we advocate for improved healthcare policies and practices that are inclusive of people with disabilities. This includes advocating for better training for healthcare professionals, accessible medical equipment, and disability-inclusive programs.

Key Initiatives

Some of our key advocacy projects include:

• Disability Pride & Awareness: We work year-round to increase visibility of Disability Pride Month and other important dates, like Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day on September 30th. By participating in events and creating awareness campaigns, we aim to foster greater understanding and support for the disability community.
• Adaptive Fashion Consulting: Through our consulting work, we partner with major brands to advise on adaptive fashion and ADA compliance. We help companies understand the importance of inclusive design and guide them in creating clothing that accommodates all body types and abilities.
• Accessible Transportation: We’re expanding our advocacy efforts into the transportation space through Girls Chronically Rock Transportation Services. Our goal is to make transportation more accessible for people with disabilities, promoting independence and mobility for everyone.
• Public Speaking & Workshops: Founder Keisha Greaves speaks at events, conferences, and workshops to advocate for disability rights, inclusive fashion, and leadership. From sharing her personal story to providing actionable insights on ADA compliance, Keisha’s voice is a powerful force for change.

Boards and Community Leadership

Keisha Greaves actively serves on several boards, where she brings her expertise and passion for inclusivity and advocacy:

• Co-chair for Health and Disability Program, Office of Health Equity and Community Engagement: Leading efforts to promote health equity and accessibility for people with disabilities.
• Advisory Board for Commonwealth Care Task Force: Ensuring that disability concerns are integrated into health care policy decisions.
• Advisory Board for MassHealth: Providing insights and recommendations on how MassHealth can better serve people with disabilities.
• Public Art Commission Board: Advocating for public art that reflects diverse voices and promotes accessibility.
• Community Accountability Board: Ensuring that voices from all communities, especially those with disabilities, are heard and respected in local governance and decision-making.
