Wearing Our Power: Celebrating Disability Pride Month with Girls Chronically Rock
Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month, a time to honor the beauty, strength, and resilience of the disability community. It’s a month of visibility, of reclaiming our stories, and of taking up space in a world that too often overlooks us.
At Girls Chronically Rock, Disability Pride isn’t just a theme, it’s a way of life.
As a Black disabled woman living with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, I created this brand to remind people, especially those in the disability community, that we are powerful, stylish, and worthy of being seen. This year, I’m beyond excited to introduce the GCR Disability Pride Collection, a bold new line inspired by the colors and message of the Disability Pride Flag.
What is Disability Pride Month?
Disability Pride Month began in July 1990, the same month the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. It’s a time to reflect on how far we’ve come in terms of rights, accessibility, and awareness, and how much farther we still need to go.
But more than that, it’s about celebrating disabled identity.
Disability isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s not a flaw or something that needs fixing. It’s part of who we are, and when we embrace it fully, we’re embracing our power.
What the Disability Pride Flag Means
The Disability Pride Flag is made up of five vibrant diagonal stripes on a black background. Each stripe represents a segment of the disability community, and together, they form a rainbow of strength:
🟥 Red – Physical disabilities
🟡 Gold – Neurodivergence (like autism, ADHD, etc.)
🟦 Blue – Mental health and psychiatric disabilities
🟢 Green – Sensory disabilities (such as blindness, deafness, and more)
⬛ Black – Mourning and rage for those we’ve lost, and resistance against the violence, abuse, and neglect faced by the disability community
This flag isn’t just a symbol, it’s a statement. And that’s exactly what this new collection is all about.
Introducing the GCR Disability Pride Collection
The Girls Chronically Rock Disability Pride Collection is for everyone who’s ready to show up boldly, beautifully, and proudly in their disabled identity. From colorful tees and cozy hoodies to powerful quotes and adaptable fashion, every piece in this collection is designed to make a statement.

Why Representation Matters
Let’s be real, disabled people are still vastly underrepresented in fashion, media, leadership, and beyond. When I was first diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me in the spaces I wanted to be in. That’s why I started Girls Chronically Rock, to create what I didn’t see.
Fashion has always been a form of expression for me. It helped me find confidence again after my diagnosis. It allowed me to take back my power and rewrite the narrative that society tried to place on me.
When we see disabled people designing, leading, modeling, and thriving, we ALL win.
This Month and Every Month: Show Your Pride
Here’s how you can celebrate Disability Pride Month with us:

Final Thoughts: We Rock, Chronically.
I didn’t create Girls Chronically Rock to just sell clothing, I created it to build a community. A space where we feel seen, celebrated, and unstoppable. This collection is a reflection of that vision, a fusion of fashion, identity, and pride.
So this July, don’t just wear clothes. Wear a message. Wear your pride. And never forget, you rock, chronically.
