Commonwealth Care Alliance Cut My PCA and Home Health Aide Hours—For What Reason?
Commonwealth Care Alliance Cut My PCA and Home Health Aide Hours—For What Reason?
I was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) in 2010, and since then, my condition has only worsened. I can no longer walk or stand—I rely on a wheelchair for mobility and require around-the-clock care to live my daily life with dignity. So, tell me why Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) thinks it’s okay to cut my Personal Care Attendant (PCA) and Home Health Aide hours without reason?
This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s an attack on my basic right to care and independence. These services are not luxuries. They allow me to get out of bed, bathe, eat, and exist in the world. Without them, I am left stranded—unable to function in the most fundamental ways.
But this isn’t just about me. It’s about the entire disability and chronic illness community who are constantly forced to fight for the care we are entitled to. Insurance companies and government agencies make decisions about our lives without even considering the real impact—and when they cut services, it’s not them who suffer. It’s us.
Why Is This Happening?
The short answer? Bureaucracy, cost-cutting, and a lack of understanding.
The long answer? A broken system that fails disabled people time and time again.
These insurance companies claim to provide care, but in reality, they prioritize their bottom line over human lives. They cut hours arbitrarily, forcing us to jump through endless hoops just to get what we already had—what we already qualified for. And what’s worse? There’s little to no transparency about why these cuts happen in the first place.
We Need Our Own Government
The disability and chronic illness community is tired. We are tired of begging for basic rights. Tired of constantly fighting a system that was never built for us.
This is why I firmly believe we need our own governing body—one that understands our needs, listens to our voices, and prioritizes our well-being. The non-disabled world has failed us, and it’s time we take control of our own policies, our own funding, and our own care systems.
I Will Not Stop Fighting
I refuse to let this slide. I will fight this decision with everything in my body. I will advocate, speak out, and challenge this injustice—not just for myself, but for everyone who has ever had their care stripped away for no reason.
To my fellow disability warriors: Don’t stay silent. Challenge every unfair cut. Demand explanations. Push for accountability. Our lives matter, and we will not be ignored.
